Target Group

Young men 17-21 years of age who are in transition from care or homelessness to independent living and who demonstrate an ability to do so. Those referred must be employed, in education or willing to work towards this and be willing to participate in individual programmes aimed at attaining independence.

Additional Information

BSS is a residential unit for young men 17-21 years (maximum) who have experienced homelessness or have been through the care system and who are willing to engage in the support programme provided. The residential unit is in one building divided into 6 self-contained units with shared bathroom facilities. The aim of a placement in BSS is to enable young men, 17 - 21 years to move from dependence, through a period of semi-independence at BSS and onto accommodation, appropriate to need. This is achieved through the provision of individual programmes.

Nominated agencies only. Contact in writing for application form completed by referring social worker and applicant prior to interview. All relevant reports submitted. 4-6 week preparation programme; if successfully completed, offered place.

Support

8 full time staff, sleep in cover. A key work system provided. Individual placement plans to support residents to develop independent living skills. Staff provide support with accessing accommodation and practical support as necessary. The aim of a placement is to move to independent or other appropriate accommodation. Support is provided to develop support networks, access to other services and develop housing options. Aftercare support is offered to ex-residents on a contract basis for as long as is required. BSS has a transitional flat which can be made available to clients as a short term option while longer term housing is being sourced.

Resident Access

Own key to flat. Front door access provided by staff on shift. There is a 12am curfew Sun-Thurs. There is a 1 am curfew Fri-Sat, occasional extensions by negotiation. Staying out over night can be arranged occasionally.
