Additional Information

Back Lane Hostel provides direct access, emergency and short term accommodation for 74 single homeless men aged over 26. The accommodation consists of single rooms with shared facilities and full board is provided. As part of the support and settlement programme, residents are offered a life skills course and access to addiction treatment; participants on these courses can extend their stay to up to 6 months. The project offers formal post settlement and settlement support.

Referral Procedure

Self or agency. Some emergency bed referral from relevant Homeless services. Phone or call in (Mon-Fri, 9am-9pm). Admission interview.

Accept self referrals and referrals from any agency.

Support

1 manager, 3 deputies, 1 specialist support worker (mental health), 1 receptionist, 1 administrator, 8 auxiliary staff and 12 project workers. 24 hour cover. Individual key workers allocated to assist with assessment of needs and referral to appropriate services. Recreational and social activities. Volunteers provide additional engagement, support and befriending to the residents. Access to other service providers is facilitated. Back Lane offers post accommodation support through the Befriending service.

Health

The Depaul Ireland nurse manager is based within Back Lane and offers weekly health support with access to a GP once a week. Links with external primary health care teams are encouraged, including chiropody, CWO, the multi-disciplinary and Access teams, as well as community mental health.
